“You do it all the time because you get used to it”, became a part of Alfian Emir Adytia (24) in his career in the music world. Born Ngawi on June 24, 1992 has incised many achievements in the field of music both at the national and international levels.
Born into a family of music lovers turned him into a lover of music since childhood especially classical music. The first time he was acquainted with instruments was the guitar when he was 9 years old, then he began to explore another instrument, the cello under the guidance of his father and continued his formal music education at the Secondary School of Music (SMM) Yogyakarta and the Institut Seni Indonesia (ISI) Yogyakarta. Currently, Alfian is preparing to continue his education at the Van Amsterdam Conservatory in the Netherlands.
In 2011, Alfian successfully held his first cello recital at SMM Yogyakarta, followed by several performances at the ISI campus and Tembi RumahBudaya in 2012. In addition to his talents as a cellist, Alfian also took a special interest in conducting and composing.
Counting already more than 50 pieces of musical compositions that he has written for orchestras and ensembles. One of musical compositions he wrote titled 5 Miniature for Oboe and Piano successfully won the 1st prize at the Kompetisi Komposisi Musik in the framework of 50 years Avip Priyatna in the year 2015. The composition also has been played in several places throughout the years from 2013-2016 among other locations in Bandung, Yogyakarta, Jakarta, and Singapore as well as being released in an album entitled Neo Indonesian Music for Oboe.
From 2005-2016, Alfian has joined a number of national and international orchestra groups. His orchestra career began when he joined the Malaysian National Youth Symphony Orchestra (NYSO) from 2005-2008. He continued by joining the Asean-Russian Symphony Orchestra of Young Musician, Nusantara Symphony Orchestra (NSO), Gita Bahana Nusantara (GBN), Southeast Asian Youth Orchestra and Wind Ensemble (SAYOWE), Southeast Asia Youth Chamber Orchestra (Seayco), Jakarta Philharmonic Orchestra (JPO), Jakarta Concert Orchestra, Jakarta Simfonia Orchestra, Twilite Orchestra, String Orchestra of Surabaya, Vietnam National Symphony Orchestra, Hongkong New Music Ensemble, OrkestraMahasiswa (OM) ISI Yogyakarta, Fombi Simfonia, and Fombi Musika the next year.
His love for the cello and classical music gave rise to the idea to perform by doing tours and music discussions in several cities in Indonesia from January to July 2015. The program was called Koling. Through this program, Alifan intended to introduce the cello to the public, as well as commemorate the 100 years of Zoltan Kodaly’s Sonata for Solo Cello which is a piece of work that is played and discussed in the program. The event was successfully held at several universities in Yogyakarta, Surabaya, Semarang, Salatiga, and Jakarta.
Alfian’s perseverance in practicing and playing the cello let him to become one of the finalists in The International Knopf Competition for Violin, Viola, and Violoncello which took place in April 2016 in Düsseldorf, Germany. The amount of experience in the world of orchestra coupled with the talent of conducting that he had made him trusted candidate to become the conductor FombiMusika in August Ode Performance which was staged at Bentara Budaya Jakarta on August 26, 2016.
